THE CONTINENTAL LEGACY CONTINENTAL headquarters in the 1970’s Heritage Swiss Made Contemporary CONTINENTAL, founded in 1924, captures the essence of Swiss watch making heritage with an electic blend of inspired design, precision and reliability. Switzerland’s traditional watch-making expertise is reflected in the CONTINENTAL range. CONTINENTAL watches are manufactured in Switzerland and bear the designation „Swiss Made“. Since 1924 they are standing for Swiss quality and horological tradition of high-quality timepieces. CONTINENTAL watches are made of stainless steel, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and Swiss precision movements that guarantee a high accuracy. CONTINENTAL offers a wide range of watches which are in perfect harmony with the current trends while retaining its classic Swiss watch-making pedigree of over nine decades. The brand’s consistent principles guide the entire process of watch design, production, distribution & retailing in tandem with the industry developments.
HISTORY OF CONTINENTAL The definitive registration of CONTINENTAL brand dates to 13th September 1924, by the company Schild et Cie, Manufacture des Montres Octava, Hebdomas et Orator, La Chaux-de-Fonds. 1 Infosuisse carries records on history of CONTINENTAL much earlier than 1924 with the first known registrations appearing in 1881 and Julien Gallet, La Chaux-de-Fonds being the first owner. At this time, CONTINENTAL was registered as Continental Time Keeper / Continental Watch Co. Schild et Cie became a well-known producer of CONTINENTAL Pocket Watches, exporting the watches to the United States of America. CONTINENTAL continued to sell under various company names such as Continental Uhren AG / Montres Continental SA. In 1967 the company was renamed as Economic Swiss Time Holding (ESTH / Economic Swiss Time Manufacturing) and CONTINENTAL began to be exported to key international markets. In 1971, Economic Swiss Time Holding was acquired by Société Suisse pour l’Industrie Horlogére SA (SSIH) and integrated with other independent brands such as Agon, Buler & Ferex. However with the advent of quartz watches, the mechanical watches revenue of SSIH fell massively along with the Swiss Watch industry in general. Subsequently Economic Swiss Time was in the year 1993 renamed to EVACO SA. In the year 2021 EST SWISS TIME LLC took over the production and distribution of the brand.
